about

Alphabet: One night while watching Titane with Soup I had a case of Vasovagal Syncope. A condition that causes your body to shut down due to emotionally distressing triggers. I'm awful with body horror so I had this horrible attack where I couldn't walk and experienced hot flashes in the middle of winter. I also lost my ability to hear temporarily, which is the scariest thing you can experience as a musician. The lyrics you hear are what I wrote down that very night and reflect how everything felt. In a way, this is kind of like what "Oxygen" is to Michael Gira. That aside, the track is heavily inspired by Show Me The Body's "You thought what you saw was it" right down to the production philosophy. No shame. I think there's a lot of personal touch to it that makes it more than our own.

Soup: This song was probably one of the most unexpected ideas we had so far because it happened to Alphabet when we both watched the film Titane. The medical meaning of the song essentially means to faint at the sight of blood or extreme distress. I remember hearing about how Alphabet felt after this experience and detailing the emotions and we both knew we had to put this into a song, hence the high-stress soundscape of the track. Sonically, we wanted it to be simple but effective and Alphabet knew he wanted to scream. Since I’ve played drums since I was a kid and my father also plays, I was able to borrow his drum set to record a beat for this song since we wanted to have a live studio drums sound. After we had the initial drum beat with Alphabet’s screaming we asked our friend Max to help us with guitars, to which he was more than obliged. Overall, I think it’s probably one of the biggest left turns for us and could be indicative of what’s to come in the future.
